Of Light and Darkness-2

Doubts and faiths both have their domains in darkness . Suppose you are in dire need of money . Your neighbour has money but does not lend it to you . Your brother brings you money by stealing it from from your neighbour's house . Long afterwards you have money and someone steals your money . You don't know who has stolen your money . There is ignorance and so there is doubt . You may doubt your brother because you have known that he is a thief . You may doubt your neighbour because he would have planned a revenge . Long afterwards you are again in dire need of money . Your brother has always helped you under such circumstances . You have faith in your brother . However , you don't know what he will do . Faiths and doubts are of the similar substance . They are based on some proofs .Positive doubts are faiths ,negative faiths are doubts . Strong faiths need strong proofs .Vivekananda would believe the words of one who had seen God and Chanakya said that the power that filled the udder of a cow before the birth of its calf was God . Such faiths cannot be forsaken easily because the are based on great proofs .

Of Light and Darkness 1

There is no darkness but ignorance . This has been uttered by a Shakespearean character . This is what I mean by darkness . Then , by light ,I mean knowledge . All have their limits of knowledge at a particular time and in a particular condition . It varies from time to time but is never without limits . Everyone's knowledge is like a boat that rests on the vast ocean of ignorance . But, knowledge comes out from the lap of ignorance . Nature is all knowing and she can impart some knowledge if properly adored . Poets are inspired and in that fit of inspiration bring out some deep knowledge from nature . This is the more dependable poetic truth , as Aristotle called it . So, the vedic sages recognised the authorship of some power other than themselves . This can be a positive hypothesis . Wordsworth accepted nature as his friend , philosopher and guide . And , a modern Indian poet , Leeladhar Jagoodi , almost unknowingly ,in a fit of inspiration wrote, 'Mere andhere ke sahare tik kar chalo ,main tumhare mamooli mathe par kavita nahin hath rakhoonga ' from 'Is Yatra Mein ' .

The Animal's Animosity

When I think about homo sapiens and accept with Darwinians that homo sapiens developed their intelligence and related faculties , though I may not be very much accurate , in order to win their battle against odds faced by them in their struggle for survival ,I am shocked to notice that soon afterwards they fell into the grips of their own organised thoughts . Here began the tragedy of the homo sapien as an animal . Their natural ,animal friendly ,friendly for their own existence as living animals and not only as the abstractions of epitomes or statues, instinctive thoughts could stand no match to the organized thougts of language . If they wanted to get rid of one such idea , they fell into the grip of another stronger . By sane revolution ,I want a preparedness on our part to subject all our thoughts to the interest of the animal , nature friendly and natural , homo sapiens . If we advance with this resolution we may someday see the sweet ,safe and sane world with natural human sentiments . We cannot hope for our human like survival without organised thoughts . So , sane revolution does not aim at deleting all organized thoughts but controlling and amending them in the interest of the natural homo sapiens . The idea of sane revolution ,itself , is growing as an organized thought .

Not Small

Birds that chirp
The winds that blow,
Boughs that swing
The cows that low .
A dog that barks
A crow that caws ,
A cat that purrs
And licks its paws .
A sun who shines
In warm delight ,
Fragrant flowers
Brave and bright .
The sky so blue
The trees so tall,
No, my world is not small .

The Last Choice

Flames do drag me far away
And love does settle the sense,
What I miss I know not well
Perhaps your presence .

Persuits, passions,and the pleasure
I am sick of thee ,
What I seek I know not well
Perhaps the captivity .

When ways are lost in even frost ,
With less to get or give ,
When unstirred by distant dreams
We only love to live .

In Gandhi Maidan - II

The trees by me were dumb and cool
The stretch before me was live ,
The birds, a few , in their urban mood
Were going back to their hives .

The tall buildings were dark still
But , lamps , a few , were lit ;
Vehicles behind the park were shouting ,
" How long will you sit ?"

In Gandhi Maidan - I

You couldn't stir any thoughts
You couldn't transmit inspirations ;
With a hope I had rushed to your grounds
You couldn't meet my expectations .

Is it because the maid I met
Or, is it because interesting clases ;
Or , is it your look now-a-days ?
Or , just I have put off my glasses .

The Same Blunder

There is the cold outside ,
There is the fog on the road .
There is an aeroplane's flight
People are going abroad .

There is the cold quick breeze,
There is the blue atop ;
There is the fragrance of chicken
There is the melody of pop.

There is a man like me
There is a girl like her,
There is a day like that day ,
There is the same blunder .

Father, You Did Not Stay

When you went westward to have some fodder
From the salty green of the gram-crop ,
To the thorny brown of the ears of wheat;
I followed you , I ran after you
With the tumbling little feet .

You rubbed the raw tobacco with lime
And talked to the farmers gay ,
When I with a friend , in seek and hide
Abandoned myself in play .

The fields are there, the crops as ever ,
The dusks of a winter's day;
The setting sun, the smoke and the murk
O, Father, you did not stay .

The Need for Universal Sane Revolution

First of all ,I would like to make it clear that the phrase 'Sane Revolution' has not originally been coined by me . I, possibly, picked it up from D H Lawrence . This again should not mislead the reader that I am a fan of D H Lawrence as I am certainly not, but this phrase seemed to me to be almost the true representative of some of my ideas about an urgently required revolution and so I chose it for my use .
It may seem rather insane, but by and by , I have come to believe that democracy may turn an evil in itself if not meticulously guarded against the dishonest intentions of many an unscrupluous politician . Let me quote some lines from William Shakespeare :-
" The devil knew not what he did ,
When he made man politic ;
He crossed himself by it :
And I cannot think ,
But in the end
The villainies of man will set him clear ."(Timon of Athens, Act-3 ,Sc.-3)
[The punctuation has been slightly altered .]
So , we must be wary of the dangers that the democratic system , if not properly contrlled and qualified , may pose to us . In India , I find that democracy is mostly castocracy, the ugly and unfair play of caste-based politics .
It is essential for us to improve our understanding and our collective resposibilities as the denizens of this globe . With this in view and the locale of Bihar , a province of India , I wrote a novel 'The Rebirth of Mahatma' in 2000 . It was published but couldnot be distributed properly or couldnot attract people but my attempts continue and you join me in your own way if you find me truthful and if this responsibility is really yours and mine, and so ,ours .
